Create a Facebook Page for Business
As a user, you may have noticed by now that there are different types of Facebook accounts that can be used when cultivating a presence on this popular social network. When launching your business’ Facebook account it becomes very important to understand the differences between these account types so that you can start your business presence off on the right foot!
What is a Facebook Page?
Facebook allows it’s users to create two different types of Facebook accounts; a Facebook profile and Facebook pages. There are many subtle differences between these two that make the way in which you use them vastly different from one another. First, let’s start with the basic differences:
A Facebook profile is the personal profile of an individual. They are used to connect with real-life friends and family, and share details of a person’s day-to-day life. A Facebook profile also has the ability to reach out to other users by sending a ‘Friend request’ to other individuals’ profiles. In order to access a Facebook profile, you must login with an email and password you set up when you create an account.
A Facebook page, also known as a Facebook business page, represents the presence of a brand, business, or public personality. Updates can be shared to the page in order to represent the personality of the business or brand. However a page can not actually reach out to individuals to connect with them. Instead a person must ‘like’ the page in order to follow the updates of the page. In order to access and manage a business page, a personal profile must be set as an admin to the page. In this way, pages do not have a stand alone login, but must be accessed from a personal profile that is an admin. A bonus to this system is that one Facebook profile is able to be an admin on multiple pages and can manage multiple accounts.
How to Create a Facebook Page
In order to make a Facebook business page, you must first be logged into the Facebook profile that you want to be the admin of the newly created business page. Then go to the Facebook business portal to start creating the page.
Choosing a Business Category
Local Business or Place: A bar, club, restaurant, doctor, movie theater, etc.
Company, Organization, or Institution: Government Organization, Food/Beverage, Cause, etc.
Band or Product: App Page, Software, Website, etc.
Artist, Band, or Public Figure: Actress/Actor, Comedian, Writer, Public Figure, etc.
Entertainment: Album, Concert Tour, Television Network, Studio, etc.
Cause or Community: Charity, Fundraiser, etc.
Choose whichever category fits you the best and make sure to fill out the required information as thoroughly as possible. You will be able to add, change, and remove content from your business information at anytime after you set up the page. However it is important that you the information is as filled out as possible so that your profile will be able to inform people as much as possible.
How to Access a Facebook Business Page
Once you have created your Facebook Business page, you can access it at any time by logging into an account that has been granted admin access. Follow these steps in order to access a page you are an admin of:
1. Click on the gear in the top right of the blue Facebook bar to reveal a drop-down menu
2. Within the drop-down, click on the page you would like to access
3. This will enable the ‘Use Facebook as’ feature and will bring you to the page
Now that you are in this mode, when you post or respond to a post, you will be ‘using Facebook as’ the page you selected. Therefore the likes and comments would come from the page and would display the pages profile image. You can also send out status updates from a page by using Facebook as the page and then posting text, an image, or video. These posts will show up on the home feeds of the people that have come and liked your page. Keep in mind there are some things a Facebook profile can do that a Facebook page cannot so don’t be surprised if Facebook will not allow you to use it in the same manner as when you are logged into a personal profile.
How to Add Admins to a Facebook Page
1. While logged as an admin, go to the page you would like to set an admin on
2. In the admin panel, click on ‘Edit Page’ to reveal a drop-down menu
3. Within this drop-down, click on ‘Admin Roles’
4. This will bring you to a page that shows all of the people that are currently admins on the page
5. Add an admin by typing in the name or email address of the Facebook user you would like to grant admin access
6. Confirming this may require you to type in your own Facebook password
Multiple people can be admins of a Facebook page and their amount of control can be limited. This allows you to have multiple people watch over the same Facebook account and contribute to the content of that account.
